The Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (IKTS) is Europe’s leading research center for high-performance ceramics, located in Dresden and Hermsdorf (Thuringia). For over 30 years, the institute has developed application-oriented solutions in fields such as energy, environmental technology, medical technology, and electronics. With more than 40,000 m² of laboratory and production facilities, IKTS offers comprehensive services ranging from material development and prototype manufacturing to system integration. A highlight of their innovation is the Research and Development Center for Transparent Ceramics in Hermsdorf, opened in August 2024, enabling new applications in protective technology, medical technology, and display technologies.
